North Korea fired a suspected intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday. This has been confirmed by Seoul's military. Seoul's military said the second launch in two days as Pyongyang continued a record-breaking blitz.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Friday that a North Korean missile had crashed into waters within the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off the northern region of Hokkaido.
Kishida told reporters in Bangkok that a ballistic missile launched by North Korea fell in our EEZ west of Hokkaido. Describing the missile attack as unacceptable, he said that there were no reports of damage to ships or aircraft.
Tokyo also confirmed the launch
A South Korean defense official told AFP that he speculated that North Korea had fired an ICBM. Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said earlier that they had detected the launch of an unidentified ballistic missile in the east. Tokyo has also confirmed the launch.
Japan's defense ministry said Pyongyang had fired a suspected ballistic missile, as the coastguard warned ships not to approach the wreckage.
Minister Cho Son had warned
The launch comes a day after North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile, as its Foreign Minister Cho Son-hui warned that Pyongyang would take "drastic" military action if the United States "opens its doors" to regional allies. Expanded deterrence" commitment.
Washington has been seeking to boost regional security cooperation and intensify joint military exercises in response to growing provocations from the nuclear-armed North, which sees all such moves as evidence of US aggression.
Biden had discussed with Jinping
US President Joe Biden discussed North Korea's recent missile tests with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping earlier this week and also spoke with the leaders of Tokyo and Seoul.
North Korea was also high on the agenda when the leaders of China and Japan held face-to-face talks for the first time in three years on Thursday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Bangkok.
Experts said the launch of one of North Korea's most powerful weapons was a clear sign that leader Kim Jong Un was displeased with the recent talks. Han Kwon-hee, manager of the Missile Strategy Forum, said it is now speculated to be an ICBM, and if so, it sends a clear message to the US and Japan.
