After the Facebook post went viral, religious fundamentalists resorted to violence
Several Durga pandals were vandalized by religious fanatics after a Facebook post purportedly by Hindus insulting the Quran went viral on social media on Wednesday night. Apart from this, a district official confirmed that some religious extremists first put a copy of the Quran in Durga pandals and took some pictures, then fled. Within a few hours all of them using Facebook to make the provocative pictures viral.
Many Hindu devotees were beaten up
He indicated the role of some activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islam. Hindu temples were brutally attacked and Hindu devotees were beaten up at Hajiganj in Chandpur, Banshkhali in Chattogram, Shibganj in Chapainwabganj, and Pekua in Cox's Bazar. Three Hindus have reportedly been killed in the violent clash, however, this is yet to be confirmed by the police.
