Alarm bell for Imran government, set to be included in the gray list, the danger of black list, know - the expert view

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's troubles are not taking the name of lessening. Restless Pakistan will have to wait longer to get out of the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). It is believed that Pakistan will be kept on the gray list till April next year. It is noteworthy that the FATF meeting, which started on Tuesday, will continue till Thursday. India is also eyeing this meeting. What is the gray list after all? Why is Pakistan anxious to come out of this list? What is the harm to Pakistan by being on the gray list?

Another chance for Pakistan to act against terrorists

Pro. Harsh V Pant says that now the next meeting of FATF will be held in April 2022. Pakistan will have to wait at least six months to come out of this gray list. He said that, however, it is a matter of relief for Pakistan that FATF has not put it on the blacklist. That is, to improve Pakistan, it is being given one more chance. This is a clear message to the Imran government that during this time it should prove that it takes concrete action against the terrorists. He said that if there is no difference between Pakistan's words and deeds, then in 2022 it can also be included in the black list. If this happens then there will be a big problem for Pakistan.

Pakistan is not fulfilling the conditions of the action plan

FATF included Pakistan in the gray list in June 2018. Pakistan was asked to implement an action plan. In this action plan, Pakistan has fulfilled 26 out of 28 conditions, but it has not been able to fulfill the remaining two conditions. The special thing is that both these conditions are very important. Due to this, it is not able to get any kind of loan from IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and European Union. Imran's government wants to come out of this gray list with the help of China, Turkey, and Malaysia, but India does not move ahead of America and France in these countries.

gray list and Pakistan

India has been saying that Pakistan has been helping terrorist groups. In 2008, Pakistan was exposed to the world for the first time, when it was included in the gray list. Although he came out of this list in the year 2009, he continued to help terrorists. Due to this, the FATF again included him in the gray list in 2012. Throwing dust in the eyes of the FATF, he again exited in 2016. After two years in 2018, he once again joined the gray list and since then he is desperate to get out of this list. He is constantly providing financial help to terrorist organizations.

What is a gray list after all?

The FATF's gray list keeps countries that are suspected of being involved in or neglecting terror financing and money laundering. Countries included in the gray list are given conditional grace to act. It is monitored by FATF. If there is improvement in these countries, then they are excluded from this list. The biggest problem for the countries included in this list comes in taking loans. Countries included in the gray list have to fulfill very strict conditions before taking loans from any international monetary body or any country. Most of the institutions are reluctant to give loans to the countries included in the gray list. International trade of those countries is also affected.

What is a blacklist after all?

In FTF, when it is proved that a country is not capable of curbing terror financing and money laundering, then it is put on the black list. Its consequences are more dangerous than the gray list. The IMF, World Bank, or any financial body does not provide financial help to the countries put on the blacklist. Multinational companies withdraw business from the countries included in the black list. Rating agencies put in the negative list. Overall, the economies of the countries included in the black list reach the brink of destruction.
