Australia's ODI and T20I squads have been announced for the upcoming series against India. Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's ODI squad, while Matt Renshaw has been selected, potentially making his debut in this format for the first time.
Mitchell Starc has returned to the host Australian ODI squad, which must have increased the tension for Team India. So, let's take a look at which veterans have been dropped from the Australian team and which players have been included in the squad.
AUS vs IND ODI Series: Who's in and who's out of the ODI squad?
The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia (India vs Australia ODI Series) is scheduled to be played in Perth on October 19th, followed by the second ODI in Adelaide on the 23rd and the third in Sydney on October 25th. Mitchell Starc has returned to Australia's ODI squad, while uncapped batsman Matthew Renshaw has been included in the ODI squad for the first time.
Starc, who recently retired from T20 Internationals, has returned to the ODI squad. He last played an ODI in November 2024, after which he was rested due to workload. Four changes were made to the 15-member ODI squad. Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen have been included in the squad.
Both Mitch Owen and Matt Shaw were also selected for the South Africa series but were unable to play due to injury. Both players are now set to make their ODI debuts against India.
Renshaw, who was previously part of the 2022 ODI squad, scored 305 runs at an average of 50 against Pakistan. He also performed brilliantly for Australia A against Sri Lanka A, scoring 80, 106, and 62.
These squad changes were made following the retirements of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis. Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped, having scored just 1 run in each of the two innings against South Africa. Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia's ODI team, as regular captain Pat Cummins is still recovering. Alex Carey may miss the first ODI as he will be playing for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield match.
