Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah made a big announcement on Thursday (27 October). He told that now the match fees of Indian women players will also be equal to that of male players. Earlier this rule has been implemented in New Zealand. It was recently decided at the BCCI AGM that the first season of the Women's IPL will be played in 2023. After this, the board has taken this big decision. Her move will bring a big change in women's cricket.
Jay Shah said in his tweet, "BCCI women cricketers will be paid the same match fees as their male counterparts. Tests (Rs 15 lakhs), ODIs (Rs 6 lakhs), T20s (Rs 3 lakhs). Equal pay was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind.''
Changes in women's cricket from 2017
The interest in women's cricket has increased since the team reached the final of the ICC Women's World Cup in 2017. After that, the team reached the final of the 2020 T20 World Cup. In August this year, the team won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
New Zealand did this work first
Earlier this year, the New Zealand Cricket Board took a big decision regarding equal pay. It was announced to them that the women's national team and domestic women's players would get the same match fee as the men.
