Taking a big decision on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry banned the import of 351 pieces of defense equipment. These devices include many subsystems and components of defense production. Import of this equipment will not be allowed under the deadline starting December next year. This is the third list released by the Defense Ministry in the last 16 months.
This step has been taken to make India the center of production of military platforms and equipment. Along with this, the ministry also released another list of 2500 items that have already been indigenised. According to the ministry, with these steps, the country is moving rapidly towards the goal of becoming self-reliant and making new achievements.
Efforts to make the country self-reliant in defense production
In a statement issued by the ministry, it has been said that the military equipment has become indigenous. To make the country self-reliant in defense production and to reduce the dependence on imports, positive steps are being taken by the Ministry continuously. According to the statement, these 351 items imported so far will be indigenized in the next three years.
This is the plan to ban the import of 251 equipment
A notification regarding this was issued by the Ministry of Defense on Monday. According to the ministry, the ban on the first set of 172 items out of 351 devices will be implemented from December next year. The restrictions on the second set of 89 devices will be implemented by December 2023. At the same time, the import of the third set of 90 pieces of equipment will be banned till December 2014.
