Posted on 12th Feb 2026 by rohit kumar

The Assam BJP has removed the co-ordinator of its social media team. The party took this strict action after posting a controversial video of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The video has now been removed from social media, but it has sparked a major political controversy.

What was in the controversial video?

In the video, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen aiming a rifle and shooting two men. One of the men was wearing a cap, and the other had a beard. The video was accompanied by the caption "Point-blank shot." The video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It was uploaded on the state BJP's official social media platform, X, on Saturday evening. However, it was immediately removed after protests.

BJP leader informed

A senior BJP leader stated that the video was uploaded without proper verification and without permission. This is why Ron Vikas Gaurav, co-ordinator of the social media team, has been removed from his post. The leader also stated that only a few individuals have the authority to post on the party's social media handles. They can share party events or speeches by leaders, but for sensitive topics, they must obtain permission. This requires approval from the social media in-charge, the party president, or the Chief Minister's Office.

Case Filed Over Controversial Video

Ranjib Kumar Sarma currently heads the state BJP's social media team. Before Gaurav was removed, four co-ordinators were working on his team. Chief Minister Sarma announced on Wednesday that the police have filed a case regarding the video. Congress leaders had filed a complaint in this matter. A BJP worker has also filed a separate complaint with the police.

Serious Allegations Made by the Opposition

State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi has leveled serious allegations against the Chief Minister. He stated that the video attempts to incite violence against Muslims. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has also filed a complaint with the Hyderabad police, demanding criminal action against the Chief Minister.

What Did CM Sarma Say?

Chief Minister Sarma responded to these allegations by saying that if there is a case against him, the police should arrest him; he is ready to go to jail. He added, "I will always stand by my words. I am and always will be against Bangladeshi infiltration."
