The Congress on Tuesday said the 22nd Law Commission ended without submitting its report on the Uniform Civil Code while the actual composition of the successor panel is yet to be announced, and asked why the Modi government was being "negligent" with such a respected body. The opposition party's statement came a day after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the rules under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) have been approved and the date of its implementation in the state would be announced soon.

Most countries are now moving towards the recognition of difference and the mere existence of difference is not a sign of discrimination but it is a sign of a strong democracy.' Ramesh further said that then in a press note published on June 14, 2023, the 22nd Law Commission of India once again notified its intention to examine the Uniform Civil Code. He informed me that the press note clarified that this is being done on a reference sent by the Ministry of Law and Justice. However, the 22nd Law Commission was eventually terminated on August 31, 2024, without submitting its report on the Uniform Civil Code.
