Air travellers faced significant difficulties on Thursday. More than 300 IndiGo flights were cancelled, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. Chaos was witnessed among passengers at many airports across the country.

The airline is reportedly struggling to adapt to new, stricter crew rostering rules, leading to the cancellation of several flights. A day earlier, the airline had announced the cancellation of at least 150 flights. The company also said it had initiated calibrated adjustments to its schedule for the next 48 hours.

What do the figures say?

Data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation shows that India's largest airline, IndiGo, saw its on-time performance (OTP) drop to 19.7% on Wednesday from 35% the previous day.

An official familiar with the matter said that on Thursday, 33 flights from Delhi, 68 from Hyderabad, 85 from Mumbai, and 73 from Bengaluru were cancelled.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled on Wednesday as well.

On Wednesday, at least 67 flights were cancelled at Delhi airport, including both arriving and departing flights. 42 flights were cancelled in Bengaluru, 40 in Hyderabad, and 33 in Mumbai, causing inconvenience to a large number of passengers.

The airline issued a statement

In an official statement on Wednesday, the airline said that calibrated adjustments will be in place for the next 48 hours, allowing normal operations and gradually restoring punctuality across the network. In the statement, the company said that its teams are working around the clock to minimize passenger inconvenience and stabilize operations as soon as possible.

The company stated that passengers affected by this disruption are being offered alternative options to reach their destinations. Passengers can also receive a refund. However, the airline did not release any updates on its flight operations on Thursday.
