Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the government's statement regarding the clash with the Chinese Army in Arunachal Pradesh. Tharoor said that it is undemocratic to make short statements without explanation. He also criticized the government for not discussing the India-China border dispute in Parliament.

A day before Tharoor's remarks, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in Parliament on Tuesday. In it, he said that Chinese troops tried to "unilaterally" change the status quo on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Yangtse area of the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, but were forcefully repelled by the Indian Army. done. The Congress is demanding a discussion in the Parliament from the government regarding the skirmish on the border. The party has accused the government of hiding the truth.

Talking to reporters in the Parliament complex on Wednesday, Tharoor said that making a short statement without any explanation and without asking questions or listening to others' views is not a democracy. We have been saying for some time that Parliament is meant for discussion.

Tharoor, a former Union minister, said this is an opportunity for the government to be accountable to the people of the country. For five years, the Chinese have been intruding or trying to intrude on our LAC. The Doklam standoff with China in 2017 has been continuously happening till Tawang on December 9. There have also been cases in Galvan Valley, Depsang, and Hot Spring. Tharoor said the government should give comprehensive information and talk to the public and answer some questions.

During the war of 1962, Pt. Nehru got the debate done

The Congress leader said that it is normal to hold discussions in such matters. Referring to the Indo-China war of 1962, he said that the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had got a debate in the Parliament. Not only this, he had listened to 100 speakers from among the MPs and presented concrete answers. Tharoor, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, said that this is the kind of constructive discussion we want. Tharoor rejected the argument that the government cannot share too much information about the border conflict, being a sensitive matter.

Referring to the antics of the Chinese Army on the LAC, Tharoor said that we are surprised that the government shows no interest in holding itself accountable to the people. No one is asking for any confidential information from the government, but they should clarify what their overall thinking is.

The most serious conflict of decades took place in Galvan

Let me tell you, in June 2020, the relations between India and China declined significantly after the conflict between the armies of the two countries in the Galvan Valley. Galvan was the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades. After this, both sides gradually increased their deployment in the border areas of eastern Ladakh with thousands of troops and heavy weapons. After the confrontation and standoff in eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army has increased its strength in the LAC area of the Eastern Command.
