Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit America next month, i.e., in September. He may address the annual high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. This news is coming from the draft list of speakers released by the United Nations. The 80th session of the UNGA will begin on September 9. The high-level general debate will run from September 23 to 29. In this, Brazil will traditionally be the first speaker of the session, followed by America.
PM can address the session on the morning of September 26
US President Donald Trump will address world leaders from the UNGA platform on September 23. This will be his first address to the United Nations session in his second term in the White House. According to the initial list of speakers for the high-level debate of the 80th session of the General Assembly, the Head of Government (HG) of India will address the session on the morning of September 26. The heads of government of Israel, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will also address the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly on the same day.
Visited Washington, DC, in February
PM Modi visited Washington DC in February this year. During this time he held a bilateral meeting with Trump at the White House. In a joint statement issued after the meeting, PM Modi and President Trump announced plans to negotiate the first phase of the multi-sectoral bilateral trade agreement (BTA).
Trump's tariff worsened the situation.
The trade talks between India and the US were going on when Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. This also includes an additional 25 percent tariff on New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil, which will come into effect from August 27. The tariff was described as unfair and unreasonable by India's Foreign Ministry. India said, 'Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests and economic security.'
The list of speakers is still preliminary.
However, the list of speakers for the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly is still preliminary. Changes in programs and speakers are likely in the next few weeks. Considered the busiest diplomatic session of the year at the UN headquarters, this conference begins every year in September. This year the session is being held amid the Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine conflict.
