On one hand, on Wednesday, where the 73rd Republic Day was celebrated with great pomp in the country. On the other hand, a fleet of three new floating border out-post ships was inducted into the Border Security Force (BSF) of India. The Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has dedicated 3 ships out of 9 floating border out-posts for BSF to them, a BSF official said. He said that with the induction of the new fleet of ships, the defense of the country's maritime borders will be strengthened.
A senior BSF officer told ANI that, Guarding Maritime Boundaries (FBOP) ships play an important role as they help to mark the borders while at sea. These ships will be of great help during patrolling at sea, and will help in supplying petrol, drinking water to small boats, the official said. Also, they will be deployed on the eastern and western borders of India.
Indeed, the indigenously built FBOP ships will act as strategic base stations on India's border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. These ships are important for the country's security, and will also help in promoting trade through the country's coastal and inland waterways. Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has supplied three FBOP vessels to BSF, which will prove to be crucial inland and sea security along 3,323 km of India-Pakistan and 4,096 km of India-Bangladesh international borders.
A fleet of three ships was handed over to BSF early last year, and the next fleet of three ships will be handed over to BSF soon. With the induction of FBOP ships, the strength of BSF's ship fleet has now reached 12. These ships are designed by CSL and classified by the Indian Register of Shipping. Each FBOP is designed with a storage system for four fast patrol boats.
