Car rams into devotees in Maharashtra's Solapur: 7 killed, many injured; CM announced to give 5-5 lakhs to the families of the victims

In Solapur, Maharashtra, 7 devotees were killed and several others were injured after they were hit by a speeding car on Monday evening. According to media reports, the group of devotees was going from Jatharwadi to the temple town Pandharpur for Kartik Ekadashi, when a car crushed several people involved in the batch. The SUV car was being driven by a 75-year-old man. He lost control of the car, after which he rammed the car into the devotees.

 

32 pilgrims were involved in the batch

Police said the accident took place at around 6.45 pm on Monday near Sangola town, about 390 km from Mumbai. A batch of 32 pilgrims had left Kolhapur three days ago. A speeding SUV crushed the devotees from behind near Sangola.

 

Police are present at the spot after getting information about the accident. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed grief over the accident. He has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
