
Amid the Hamas-Israel conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said new challenges are emerging from developments in West Asia and the time has come for countries in the Global South to speak with one voice for the larger global well-being.
In his address at the second edition of the virtual Voice of the Global South Summit hosted by India, Modi said New Delhi has stressed restraint as well as dialogue and diplomacy to deal with the situation arising out of the Hamas-Israel conflict.
India had condemned the attack by Hamas- PM
He said, India condemned the barbaric terrorist attack on October 7 on Israel. Also, the Prime Minister said that India strongly condemns the deaths of civilians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
He said we are seeing that new challenges are emerging from development in West Asia.
India hosted the first edition of the 'Voices of the Global South Summit' in January to highlight the concerns and challenges faced by developing countries.
Voice of Global South is a unique platform- PM
Modi said Voice of Global South is the most unique platform reflecting the changing world of the 21st century.
The Prime Minister also called for cooperation under the framework of the 'Five C's' - consultation, communication, cooperation, creativity, capacity building.
He said I cannot forget that historic moment when the African Union was included as a permanent member of the G20 due to the efforts of India.
In a significant milestone under India's G20 presidency, the African Union in September became the new permanent member of the grouping of the world's largest economies in the first expansion of the influential bloc since its inception in 1999.
The PM showed seriousness on climate finance
Enumerating the achievements of the Global South under India's G20 presidency, Modi said that this time significant seriousness was shown on climate finance.
He said that there was a consensus in the G20 to provide finance and technology on easy terms to the countries of the Global South for climate change.
He said India believes that new technology should not increase the distance between the Global South and North.
