Bill Burns, the head of the US intelligence agency CIA, has blamed Chinese diplomacy for the current economic situation in Sri Lanka, trapping him in a debt trap. He has said that Sri Lanka did not understand China's bets and got caught in its trap.

 

Addressing the Aspen Security Forum in Washington, CIA chief Burns said – China's big investment in the form of debt is the main reason for the economic devastation of Sri Lanka. This mistake of Sri Lanka should be taken as a warning to other countries. Lessons should be learned from this.

 

People again on the streets as soon as Ranil became the President

 

Amidst the economic and political crisis, the Sri Lankan Parliament on 20 July elected former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new President. Despite this, protests are still going on on the streets. The protesters allege that the Rajapaksa family has put Wickremesinghe on the throne as their pawn. This is not going to change the situation. He said that the Rajapaksa clan has made a deal with Wickremesinghe to save his throne. This is cheating with people.

 

The condition of the country is not improving

Now people have no faith in the Rajapaksa family and any leader they have installed. Protesters believe the Rajapaksa family wants to shield themselves from charges by placing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the president of Sri Lanka.

 

Former PM Mahinda saw for the first time after two months

 

Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa appeared in the House for the first time in two months during voting for the new President. Mahinda was in a secret hideout for so long. After former President Gotabaya fled to Singapore, there were speculations that Mahinda might also flee from Sri Lanka. Chamal and Namal of the Rajapakse clan also reached the Parliament for voting.
