Arvind Kejriwal: 'Kejriwal will have to surrender on June 2 itself', SC rejects plea to extend bail

CM Arvind Kejriwal, accused of money laundering in the Delhi Excise Policy scam, has got a setback from the Supreme Court today. The court has refused to accept the petition seeking an extension of interim bail by 7 days for CM Kejriwal's health checkup. This means that Arvind Kejriwal will now have to surrender on June 2.

The registry of the apex court refused to accept the application, saying that since Kejriwal has been given the liberty to approach the lower court for regular bail, the petition is not maintainable.

On Tuesday, a vacation bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice KV Vishwanathan took note of the arguments of senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the Chief Minister, and said that the decision on listing the interim petition can be taken by the CJI.

Kejriwal is on bail till June 1

CM Kejriwal is on interim bail till June 1. He was arrested on March 21 on charges of money laundering in the alleged liquor policy scam in Delhi. A few days ago, Kejriwal was granted interim bail from May 10 to June 1 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. CM Kejriwal will have to surrender on 2 June.

What was the argument given?

Let us tell you that in the petition filed by CM Kejriwal in the court, attaching the doctor's advice, it was said that he has lost six to seven kilos of weight during his detention, and given the sudden weight loss and other health problems, he needs to undergo several medical tests including PET-CT scan, which will take five to seven days.

Kejriwal said in his new petition filed on 26 May that he would surrender before the jail authorities on 9 June instead of the scheduled date of 2 June for returning to jail.
