Civil Service Vacancies: More than 2300 posts of IAS-IPS are vacant, the minister said this about recruitment

UPSC Civil Service Vacancies 2022: The number of candidates preparing for government jobs is increasing continuously. Especially since the Corona period, the inclination of youth in the Civil Services Examination has increased. Despite this, more than 2300 posts of IAS-IPS, the top services of bureaucracy in the country, are lying vacant. This information has been given by the Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh.

 

180 are recruited through the civil services examination

 

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that as of January 1, 2022, there are 1,472 vacancies in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 864 in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in various states. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, he said that to ensure full utilization of the services of directly recruited IAS officers, the government has increased their annual recruitment through Civil Services Examination (CSE) to 180 from Civil Services Examination-2012 onwards. has given.

 

Higher numbers mean compromising on the quality of training

 

Singh said that the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, is the country's premier training institute for civil servants. In this regard, the Baswan Committee had recommended that the number of more than 180 would exceed the batch capacity of LBSNAA and would compromise the quality of training of officers. However, from Civil Services Exam 2020 onwards, the number of candidates in the training batch of IPS officers has increased to 200.

 

Efforts to fill the vacant posts in all cadres at the earliest

 

The minister said that as of January 01, 2022, there are 1,472 vacancies in IAS and 864 in IPS in various states. The occurrence and filling of vacancies is a continuous process. He said that the Central Government endeavors to fill up the vacant posts in all the cadres at the earliest. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services Examination every year to fill vacancies in the category of IAS and IPS on direct recruitment basis. In addition, selection committee meetings with state governments are conducted by UPSC to fill up vacancies in the promotion quota.
