New Delhi, March 20 (IANS) Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the passage of coal and mines bill was the most significant outcome of the first part of the budget session of parliament, adding that the government wished both were passed unanimously.
"One most singular outcome of this part of budget session being that the infamous discretion of government in allocating coal and non-coal minerals, one activity that has emerged over the years as cesspool of corruption and malpractices has been decisively brought to an end," Naidu said.
"The government would have liked these two legislations to have been passed unanimously," he said.
Naidu also joked that many must been feeling relieved that the first half of the session was not extended.
"I am sure most of you must be feeling relieved as the prospect of extension of this phase of session has been averted," he said.
