On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his government's decision to conduct a caste census. Now on Monday, the Congress took a dig at this and shared two old videos of the Prime Minister, in which the Prime Minister is seen criticizing the opposition's demand for caste census. On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states. In this meeting, PM Modi praised the decision of the caste census.
What did the Prime Minister say?
Prime Minister Modi said that the caste census is an exercise to bring those sections into the mainstream, which have been left behind. He stressed that his government does not believe in caste politics, but empowering the backward is its aim. Two resolutions were passed in this meeting of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy CMs, one of which praised the bravery of the armed forces in Operation Sindoor and the strong decisions taken under the leadership of PM Modi, while the second resolution praised the decision to conduct caste census along with the next census.
Congress took a jibe.
Congress General Secretary and Media In-charge Jairam Ramesh shared two old videos of PM Modi, in which PM Modi was seen criticizing the opposition's demand for a caste census. Jairam Ramesh wrote in a social media post that 'On April 30, 2025, amidst the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister suddenly announced the caste census. Yesterday, as expected, the Prime Minister took full credit for the caste census in a meeting with NDA Chief Ministers.'
Sharing two videos, Jairam Ramesh wrote 'But listen to what the Prime Minister said earlier - one. On October 2, 2023, when the results of the caste survey were released in Bihar and second. On April 28, 2024, when the Congress demanded a caste census.' In the first video, the Prime Minister is heard saying that they (the opposition) want to divide the society based on caste and want to continue their sins further. In the second video, the Prime Minister is heard saying that the Congress' demand for a caste census is the mentality of urban Naxalism.
The central government announced to conduct caste census last month. A caste census will also be conducted along with the census. This will be the first time after the independence of the country that caste information will also be included in the census. The Congress party was raising the demand for caste census across the country. During the assembly elections in states like Bihar, Telangana, and Karnataka, the Congress had made caste census its main issue and due to this the party also benefited.
