Bhubaneswar The corona is ringing alarm bells for young children in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. In the second wave, the number of children in Corona in the capital region is quite visible. In the last 15 days, 85 children in the Capital Region are Corona positive, in the age group of 0-14 years. About 45 percent of the total new infections in the city are under 10 years of age.
Corona continues to wreak havoc in Odisha's capital city in the second wave. About eight months after the first wave, Bhubaneswar crossed the 450 marks on Saturday. In Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, the number of daily infections has been recorded at 451, while in Khurda district on Sunday, 704 coronas have been found infected. It is noteworthy that during the first wave, 480 Corona positive case was registered in the capital on September 12, 2020. According to the data collected by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) during the period of 1 to 16 April for the last 15 days, children under the age of 14 have a significant number of daily new infections in the smart city. This figure is 2 to 4 percent daily.
The ratio in the city was around 1 to 2 percent during the peak period last year. In the last 15 days, a total of 87 children in the capital in the age group of 0 to 14 are Covid-19 positive. According to data analysis, about 45 percent of the total new infections in the city are children under the age of 10 years. Besides, gender division suggests that boys are found to be more infected than girls. This figure shows the internal weakness of boys. The census data of Bhubaneswar shows that the population of this age group in the capital is around 2.7 lakhs. About 10 percent of them are in the age group of 0 to 6 years.
Recovery rate significantly lower in the second wave
Analysis of Corona data showed that the recovery so far in the second wave is much lower. The recovery rate in Corona's first wave was 83 percent, which is 25 percent today. This marks a harrowing day for the smart city.
Children infected more due to negligence
According to a senior BMC official, the corona is spreading quite rapidly in the second wave. The virus spread to the working-age group (20–45 years) in the first wave. Last time prevalence among children was slow. This time the number of children is considerable. The official said that it has been observed that most of the children in the city are not following the Covid-19 rules strictly. They still mingle with each other in playgrounds. There is a need to curb this.
The transition from academic institutions spread very fast
Another aspect is that after the opening of schools and educational tutorial institutes after a long time, the children got a chance to move out of the houses after a long gap. During this time the Corona rules were not followed properly. A large number of institutes have come under the grip of corona infection in the second wave.
