Kolkata Knight Riders—or KKR—registered their second victory of the IPL 2026 season on the night of Tuesday, April 14. This marked the Chennai team’s second win after suffering three consecutive defeats. With this victory, CSK leaped up the points table to secure the 8th position, while the Kolkata team once again failed to open their winning account. Following the defeat, the BCCI imposed a hefty fine on KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane.

BCCI Imposes Fine on Ajinkya Rahane

Specifically, during the CSK vs KKR match, Ajinkya Rahane was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate. Consequently, the BCCI imposed a fine of ₹12 lakh on team captain Rahane.

An official media release issued by the IPL stated that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined because his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 22 of IPL 2026 against CSK at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This constituted his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses. Rahane was fined ₹12 lakh.

It is worth noting that Rahane has become the fourth individual to be penalized for a slow over-rate in the current season. Shreyas Iyer was the first to face this penalty; he was fined ₹12 lakh following a match against Gujarat, and subsequently ₹24 lakh for repeating the offense. Since then, Shubman Gill and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad have also been fined for similar offenses.

KKR Yet to Win a Single Match

The KKR team is still awaiting its first victory in IPL 2026. They have played 5 matches this season; they suffered defeat in 4 of these matches, while one match was washed out due to rain. KKR currently has just 1 point to its name. On Tuesday, CSK defeated them by 32 runs. In the process, they set a new, unwanted record to their name. For the first time in the history of the IPL, KKR has set the unwanted record of losing their first five matches of a season. Never before has this three-time champion team faced such a predicament.
