Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill), introduced in 2023, as a significant step for the 21st century. He stated that this Act was passed unanimously by all political parties, a fact that underscores the nation’s commitment to women’s empowerment. This legislation fulfills the long-felt need—spanning decades—for reserving seats for women within democratic structures.
PM Modi noted that while the Act was passed unanimously by all parties, the Opposition, in particular, emphasized the necessity of implementing the women’s reservation law by 2029. He reiterated that the need to provide reservations for women within democratic frameworks has been a recognized imperative for decades. He further added that India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ (women's power) has made immense contributions to the nation’s development.
“I Have Come to Seek the Blessings of Women”: PM Modi
Speaking at the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Conference,’ PM Modi stated, “I have not come here to preach to anyone or to raise awareness; rather, I have come to seek the blessings of the women of this country.” He affirmed that the enactment of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ stands as one of the most pivotal steps of the 21st century. He highlighted that the Panchayati Raj Institutions in India serve as exemplary models of women’s leadership.
“With This Law, Social Justice Will No Longer Be Just a Slogan”: Prime Minister
Addressing women’s conferences, Prime Minister Modi remarked that the passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ represents India’s resolve to build an egalitarian nation—one where social justice is not merely a slogan, but an intrinsic part of the work culture. He emphasized that this Act formally acknowledges the invaluable contributions made by India’s ‘Nari Shakti.’
“Increased Women’s Participation Ensures Accountability”: PM
The Prime Minister highlighted that the government’s consistent effort and priority have been to ensure the passage of this amendment bill through dialogue, cooperation, and participation. He asserted that increased participation of women in decision-making processes leads to greater sensitivity and accountability within the systems.
