According to UGC chairman Jagdish Kumar, technical glitches in the initial stages of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will not affect the expansion plan for the crucial exam, which includes the proposal for a merger with JEE and NEET. However, he also said that the plan will not be rushed.
He said in an interview that technical glitches in the initial stages of CUET-UG are not a setback but a lesson. They will be taken away shortly and this will not in any way stop the plan to expand or expand the exam. Earlier, the chairman of UGC had informed that in the future engineering entrance exam JEE and medical entrance exam NEET will also be merged with CUET.
Scheme of conducting a common entrance test
UGC President Jagdish Kumar informed that under the new education policy there is a plan to conduct a common entrance test to reduce the burden on the students appearing in multiple admissions. However, we will not rush to start it as we need to plan well. This is a big exercise.
When will the merger of exams happen?
Responding to this question, the Chairman of the UGC said that its modalities are yet to be worked out. An expert committee will be constituted by the end of this month. It will study all the important entrance exams conducted in the country as well as abroad. If we have to start the exam next year, then the preparation has to start in a big way now. He said that for this there should also be a consensus among all. The two main issues we need to address are the syllabus as well as the difficulty level as each subject has its specialties.
The fourth phase will start on Wednesday
The fourth phase of the CUET UG examination will start on Wednesday. The first phase started in July. During this, technical flaws were revealed in the examination at many centers. At the same time, the examination was postponed at many centers. The chairman of the UGC had informed that the examination was canceled at some centers after reports of vandalism at several centers. CUET is a common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in central universities. It is the second largest entrance exam in the country with 14.9 lakh registrations. At the same time, NEET-UG is the biggest entrance exam in India, with more than 18 lakh registrations.
