
With the onset of snowfall in the mountains of North India, the cold has started increasing once again. Its effect is visible in Punjab, Haryana, and the entire plains including Delhi NCR. Due to this, the second hottest day temperature was recorded in Delhi on Tuesday. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 8.5 degrees Celsius. Earlier on December 26, it was recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog will remain for two days
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be severe cold for a few days. Due to the icy wind coming from the mountains, the condition of cold waves can also persist over the weekend. There is also a possibility of dense fog for the next two days. That is why the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for four consecutive days. Whereas, Punjab was covered with a white sheet of mist amidst the icy winds.
The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly clear sky, and minimum and maximum temperatures to be around eight and 17 degree Celsius respectively on Wednesday. Moderate to dense fog is also expected to affect the visibility level on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department says that a mild western disturbance is moving towards Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, there may be snowfall again in the hilly areas. Due to this, the weather will change in the plains, and a cold wave outbreak will be seen due to cold air. In some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, there may be an outbreak of cold waves for four to five days. At the same time, according to the private agency Skymet Weather, which issued the weather forecast, dense fog may occur in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Snowfall in Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand on Tuesday, the maximum temperature fell two to three degrees below normal due to snowfall in the higher peaks of the mountains and icy wind accompanied by fog in the plains. However, it was sunny during the day in most parts of the state, which brought some relief. But, as soon as the sun left, people were forced to hide inside the house.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cold and cold conditions will test for a few more days. This is creating cold-day conditions. Because of this, a yellow alert has been issued. Gangotri Dham and Harshil in Uttarkashi received snowfall on Tuesday evening, while other parts of the district including Yamunotri and Janaki Chatti remained cloudy.

An alert for heavy snowfall and rain has been issued in Himachal Pradesh on January 7 and 8. The weather is likely to remain clear till December 6. Warning of the cold wave has been issued in three districts Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una, and dense fog in two districts.
Director of Meteorological Department Surendra Pal told that on January 7 and 8, the traffic system along with electricity and water may be disrupted. However, the minimum temperature at six places in the state is below the freezing point. At the same time, there was snowfall in the high-altitude rural areas of Lahul including Rohtang and Anjani Mahadev, Gulaba, Marhi, Rahlafal, Byasnala of Manali Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
Punjab wrapped in mist amid icy winds
A white blanket of smog enveloped Punjab even on Tuesday amidst icy winds. Visibility in Amritsar, Pathankot, Ludhiana, Patiala, Adampur, Halwara, and Bathinda ranged from zero to 50 meters. The sun did not come out till three o'clock in the afternoon. The cold wave forced people to shiver the whole day. Due to this, the condition of a cold day and severe cold day remained. Due to the cold winds, the day temperature in many cities was recorded at eight degrees Celsius.
Kanpur coldest in Uttar Pradesh
The icy wind coming from the mountains is continuously dropping the temperature. With severe cold, it rained fog throughout the state on Tuesday. Visibility remained zero. Kanpur remained the coldest in the state. In the last two days, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius due to a fall of 7.2 degrees Celsius. Whereas, it was 4.0 degrees Celsius in Najibabad and 4.9 degree Celsius in Bareilly.
Kanpur also recorded the lowest day temperature at 10.2 degrees Celsius, while Lucknow and Bareilly recorded 10.6 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert for dense fog and cold waves in 47 districts of the state on Wednesday. A warning has been issued for extremely dense fog and cold waves till January 8.
