India's experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a major achievement during the fourth Test match against England. Ashwin trapped Jonny Bairstow LBW in England's first innings on Friday (February 23) in Ranchi. With this wicket he created history. Ashwin took his 100th wicket against England in Tests. He became the first bowler from India to do so.
England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bat first. Debuting fast bowler Akash Deep gave the first three blows to the English team by dismissing Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Jack Crowley. After that Ashwin dismissed Bairstow. He became the second bowler to take 100 wickets in Test matches between India and England. Before him, the experienced fast bowler of the English team, James Anderson, had achieved this feat.
Ashwin's name entered into special list
Ashwin became the seventh player to take 100 wickets along with scoring 1000 or more runs in Tests against a single team. Before him, George Giffen of Australia has done this against England, Mony Noble of Australia has done this against England, Wilfred Rhodes of England has done this against Australia, Garfield Sobers of West Indies has done this against England, Ian Botham of England has done this against Australia, Stuart Broad of England has done this against Australia.
