Death toll in Wayanad landslide rises, 152 people still missing; PM Modi will take stock on August 10

The death toll in the devastating landslide that occurred in Kerala's Wayanad after heavy rains in the past few days has risen to 413, while 152 people are still missing. Relief and rescue operations continued for the ninth day on Wednesday.

 

PM Modi to visit landslide-hit Wayanad

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit landslide-hit Wayanad on August 10 and meet the disaster-affected people. A source said that the Prime Minister will reach Kannur by a special plane. From there, he will conduct an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas by helicopter. After this, he will visit some relief camps, where more than 10,000 people are currently homeless.

 

Rahul Gandhi demands to declare Wayanad landslide as a national disaster

 

Meanwhile, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday - 'I request the Central Government to give a comprehensive rehabilitation package for Wayanad. The Central Government should also increase the compensation given to the people. The Centre should declare the Wayanad landslide a national disaster.'

 

Prabhas donates Rs 2 crore

 

Meanwhile, Telugu superstar Prabhas donated Rs 2 crore to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund for rehabilitation efforts in the landslide-hit district of Kerala.

 

Student's letter wins Army's heart

 

A letter written by Ryan, a class 3 student, praising the soldiers engaged in relief work in Wayanad has won the heart of the Indian Army and it has given a heart-warming reply to it through X. The Army's Southern Command has posted the child's letter and its reply.

 

What did the student say in his letter?

 

In the letter written in the school diary, the student said- 'I am Ryan. My beloved Wayanad was hit by a major landslide, causing massive destruction. I am proud and happy to see you rescuing people trapped under the debris.' The child has mentioned a video in which soldiers were seen eating biscuits to satiate their hunger while building a bridge in an area devastated by landslides. The student wrote in the letter that this scene impressed me a lot and I want to join the army one day and protect the country.

 

The defense force gave a heart-touching reply

 

In response to the letter, the army said- 'Dear Master Ryan, your touching words have touched our hearts. We aim to be a ray of hope in times of adversity and your letter confirms this. Heroes like you inspire us to give our best. We eagerly await the day when you will wear the uniform and stand with us. Together we will make our country proud. Thank you young warrior for your courage and inspiration.
