Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting at the Home Ministry to review the security situation in Manipur. The meeting was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and others. This is the first such meeting after the imposition of the President's rule in the northeastern state. According to officials, the Home Minister reviewed the security situation in Manipur on Saturday. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and top officials of the Manipur government, army, and paramilitary forces attended the meeting. The security situation review meeting is being held after the 'ultimatum' given by the Governor on February 20, asking all those holding illegal and looted weapons to surrender the weapons. Over 300 weapons were surrendered by the public, mainly in the valley districts, during the seven days. These included 246 firearms handed over by Meitei extremist group Arambai Tengole. Former Union Home Secretary Bhalla extended the deadline for depositing looted and illegal weapons till 4 pm on Friday, March 6, giving people demanding additional time.

The Congress on Friday criticized the imposition of the President's rule in Manipur, alleging that the move was taken mainly due to the incompetence of the BJP government in the state. Congress' Manipur unit vice-president Hareshwar Goswami told reporters that the President's rule was imposed in the state even though the BJP had an absolute majority in the Assembly. "This is very unfortunate as the BJP is in power at the Centre and the state government was also being run by the same party. This is mainly due to the incompetence of the BJP government in the state," he alleged. Five people including a militant arrested in two districts
