Responding to questions, Minister Jaishankar said, "I think we issued a statement yesterday (Monday), and I would urge you to look at that.  In short, the statement said that we are concerned about the current developments. But we urge all concerned parties to sit down and find a solution in the best interests of the Venezuelan people's well-being and safety. That is our concern."

He further added, "We would like to see Venezuela as a country with which we have had very good relations for many years. We would like to see that, whatever the developments, the people there are safe." The Ministry of External Affairs had said in a statement on Monday that the recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern and the government is closely monitoring the situation.

The statement said that India reiterates its support for the well-being and safety of the Venezuelan people. We call upon all concerned parties to resolve the issues peacefully through dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the region. The Indian government has issued an advisory to all Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Venezuela in view of the escalating tensions. Indian citizens already in Venezuela have also been advised to exercise extreme caution and limit their movement.
