Delhi AQI: Protest against pollution at India Gate; police detain protesters

People are now taking to the streets to protest against pollution in the capital. On Sunday, people gathered at India Gate and held a peaceful protest. In view of the protest, the police increased security at India Gate.

 

 

Darvad Path was completely closed to tourists and paramilitary personnel were deployed alongside the police. As soon as protesters reached Man Singh Road and began a peaceful protest, the police detained them, citing lack of permission. They were released after being taken to the police station.

 

 

Protesters stated that the pollution level is higher than the figures shown. Instead of taking any concrete action, the Delhi government and officials are busy shutting down the peaceful protests. Delhiites are simply demanding their right to breathe. Delhi's air has remained toxic since Diwali.

 

 

Delhi residents are finding it difficult to breathe, yet the government is not implementing any lockdown, shutdown, or work-from-home orders. They are only hearing cloud seeding and distractions. This situation is unfortunate.

 

 

"Surely we can't breathe, but we have the courage to fight," "Pollution has caused havoc - government, find a solution," "Children, the elderly, and the young all need clean air..." Holding placards with these slogans, the protesters say the Delhi government has left people to live in toxic air.

 

 

It is the government's responsibility to provide clean air and water. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the city's air quality was in the "very poor" category on Sunday morning. Sourav, a member of the campaign, explained that they are carrying out the protest under the hashtag "HelpUsBreathe." The protests are being organized against polluted air under the banner of civic groups like "Warrior Moms" and "My Right to Breathe." The purpose of this protest and campaign is to demand clean air. The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress have also supported this protest.
