Assembly elections are approaching in Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Assam starting Friday, ahead of the announcement of these elections. During this visit, he will unveil development projects worth ₹47,600 crore. He is scheduled to arrive in Kokrajhar this afternoon, where he will unveil projects exceeding ₹4,570 crore. Subsequently, he will proceed to Guwahati to launch development projects worth ₹19,680 crore. This marks Modi’s fourth visit to the state within the last four months.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Over the next two days, I will participate in programs organized across Assam and West Bengal—specifically in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar, and Kolkata. These events will provide a wonderful opportunity to interact with the people of these states. Additionally, several development works will be inaugurated.” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that preparations for the visit have been completed. In a social media post, he remarked, “The people of Assam are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Honorable Narendra Modi ji today. We have finalized all preparations. Over the next 48 hours, projects worth over ₹47,600 crore will be dedicated to our people.”
Bhoomi Pujan for Assam Mala 3.0
In Kokrajhar, Modi will perform the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ (groundbreaking ceremony) for Assam Mala 3.0—a major initiative aimed at road infrastructure development. Under this scheme, over 900 kilometers of roads will be constructed, thereby improving inter-state connectivity. Furthermore, this initiative will strengthen the linkages between national highways and rural roads. He will also perform the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for four flyovers and two bridges—to be developed with an investment of approximately ₹1,100 crore—within the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region.
Benefits of the Projects
Officials stated that these projects are expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kokrajhar district and lead to improvements in connectivity, tourism, access to agricultural markets, healthcare services, and rural mobility. He stated that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a Periodic Overhauling (POH) workshop at Bashbari in the district, aimed at strengthening railway maintenance and enhancing operational efficiency.
Release of PM-KISAN Scheme Installment
He further informed that the Prime Minister will also flag off three new trains: the Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi-Agartala Express. In Guwahati, Mr. Modi will distribute land leases to tea garden workers—a move that marks a significant milestone in granting homestead land rights to the tea garden community. He will also release the 22nd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme to over 93 crore farmers across the country. The Prime Minister will unveil the ₹2,300 crore Kopili Hydroelectric Project, located in the Dima Hasao and West Karbi Anglong districts.
Inauguration of the First Phase of the North East Gas Grid
He will also inaugurate Oil India Limited’s Numaligarh-Siliguri Product Pipeline (NSPL) capacity expansion project, which will facilitate the enhancement of the Numaligarh Refinery’s capacity from 3 million metric tonnes per annum to 9 million metric tonnes per annum by enabling the evacuation of additional petroleum products. Among other projects, Mr. Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the North East Gas Grid—a major pipeline project connecting Guwahati to Numaligarh, Gohpur, and Itanagar, with a branch line extending to Dimapur. He will also lay the foundation stone for Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s rail-fed POL terminal at Panchgram in the Hailakandi district.
What is on the Saturday Schedule?
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a ropeway project connecting the Kamakhya Railway Station to the Kamakhya Temple, which will have the capacity to transport approximately 17,000 passengers daily. He will also inaugurate the PM Ekta Mall in Guwahati, envisioned as a major commercial and tourism hub for Assam and the Northeast, featuring permanent stalls for ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) items, GI-tagged products, and handicrafts and handloom products from Assam and other states. He will depart for Silchar on Saturday, where he is scheduled to launch development projects worth approximately ₹23,550 crore. Assembly elections in Assam are likely to be held in April, with the ruling BJP seeking to return to power for a third consecutive term.
