What happened in the Delhi riots?
Riots took place in Delhi on 24-25 February 2020 in which 53 people lost their lives and many others were injured. IB officer Ankit Sharma was also killed in the riots and Tahir Hussain is also an accused in this case. Tahir has been in jail since March 2020. Last week, a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court gave a split verdict on his demand for interim bail for the election campaign, after which the matter was sent to a three-judge bench.
On Tuesday, a three-member bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta, while granting conditional custody parole to Tahir Hussain for the election campaign, also recorded the undertaking given by him to the court in the order.
Custody parole has been granted with conditions.
Tahir Hussain will bear all the expenses incurred on security etc. during these six days. He will also make arrangements for the stay of security personnel etc. Tahir will not go to his original house in Karawal Nagar (the alleged riot site) nor will he make any comment about the pending cases during campaigning or in press conferences.
