On Monday, the entire nation celebrated the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. At Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, the celebrations began early in the morning with Mangal Aarti and special prayers. Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863, as Narendranath Dutta in Calcutta. His birth anniversary is celebrated as National Youth Day. Various branches of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, organized processions in different parts of the state, in which school students also participated. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on the occasion.

President Droupadi Murmu said on Monday, on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, that he instilled a sense of national pride in Indians and inspired the youth to contribute to nation-building. In a post on X, President Murmu said, “A timeless visionary and spiritual personality. He preached that inner strength and service to humanity are the foundations of a meaningful life. He took India's eternal wisdom to the world.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, “My respectful tributes to Swami Vivekananda, a powerful source of inspiration for Indian youth, on his birth anniversary. His personality and work continuously infuse new energy into the resolve for a developed India. I wish that this auspicious occasion of National Youth Day brings new strength and new confidence to all countrymen, especially our young friends.” He further added, “Swami Vivekananda believed that youth power is the strongest foundation of nation-building. Indian youth can realize every resolution with their enthusiasm and passion.”

On the occasion of National Youth Day, Amit Shah wrote on X, "I pay my respects to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary. I extend my best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of National Youth Day." Swami Vivekananda connected the youth of the country with India's rich tradition of knowledge, philosophy, and spirituality, and brought it to the global stage. He also established the ideals of social service through the Ramakrishna Mission. His thoughts, which convey the message of not stopping until the goal is achieved, are inspiring a sense of duty and patriotism among the youth and accelerating the building of a developed India.

 

 

The Chief Minister of West Bengal and the Leader of the Opposition also paid tribute.

 

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari paid their respects at Swami Vivekananda's birthplace on Shimla Street in North Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Swami Vivekananda's ideals of patriotism, social service, and communal harmony continue to inspire people and remain a guiding force. Banerjee said that his teachings of love for the country, service to the poor and downtrodden, and the message of unity, peace, and harmony have always inspired her.

 

 

She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "On the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the epitome of India's indigenous spiritual consciousness, I offer my respectful tributes to him." The path of harmony among all religions shown by Swami Vivekananda was the foundation of Bengal's social ethos. She expressed hope that, inspired by Swami Vivekananda's ideals, the people of Bengal will continue to respect and love one another regardless of religion or caste. The Chief Minister also outlined several steps taken by the state government to honor Swami Vivekananda's legacy.
