Torrential rain and strong winds have created havoc in Delhi. This natural disaster has put air travel in trouble on Tuesday morning.
Major airlines like Indigo, SpiceJet, and Air India have issued travel advisories to warn passengers, indicating that there is a possibility of delays in flights and disruption in road traffic. The weather is bad, and passengers have been asked to check the status of their flights.
IndiGo said in its post, "Heavy rain is predicted in Delhi, which may cause delays in flights and problems in reaching the airport. We cannot change the weather, but we will try our best to make your journey easy. Please check the status of your flight and leave with some extra time for the airport." Airlines warn, passengers urged to be cautious
SpiceJet also mentioned bad weather in Delhi and Dharamshala and wrote on X, "Flights to and from Delhi (DEL) and Dharamshala (DHM) may be affected due to bad weather. Passengers are requested to check their flight status at http://spicejet.com/#status."
Similarly, Air India also warned, "Strong winds and rain may affect flights in Delhi. Check your flight status before leaving for the airport and keep extra time for travel."
Rain alert across the country
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in many parts of the country till August 4. North-West India, East Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh are expected to receive very heavy rains on July 29. Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana will also receive heavy rains. In Western India, Konkan and Gujarat are expected to receive heavy rains on July 29 and light to moderate rains for the next 6-7 days.
Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in north-eastern India. Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in eastern and central India.
Rain also wreaked havoc in South India.
In southern India, Kerala and coastal Karnataka will receive heavy rains on July 29-30, along with strong winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph. Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of the country for the next week.
According to the IMD, northwest, north-east, and eastern India will receive widespread rains for the next few days. Scattered to widespread rains are also expected in central and southern India.
On Wednesday, there is a warning of heavy rain at isolated places in eastern Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and western Rajasthan.
