Despite government pressure, Twitter did not take action on some handles, why did it do this

On the orders of the central government, Twitter has blocked many accounts in the last about 10 days. Apart from this, Twitter has not banned the accounts of some new media groups, journalists, activists, and politicians at the behest of the government. Twitter says that we did not ban these accounts because we believe that this hinders freedom of expression under Indian law. Twitter has stated in one of its blog posts, 'We have informed the Ministry of Electronics and IT about the action taken by us. We will continue to talk to the Government of India. This detailed statement from Twitter came at a time when there were reports of a dispute between the central government and the social media company.

 

It was alleged on Twitter that the central government had ordered him to block 250 accounts, but no action was taken on his behalf. It was said that Twitter blocked these accounts for a few hours only after the central government order. On this, Twitter was also warned of action by the central government. The social media company officials had sought time to meet IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad amidst the ongoing differences between the government and Twitter. Twitter had raised concerns about the safety of its employees.

 

In a blog post on Wednesday, Twitter has expressed concern about the threat posed for free speech worldwide. Twitter wrote, 'The challenge has arisen in the face of the Internet and open expression around the world. After the violence in New Delhi recently, we want to tell what our principles and rules are in India. Twitter wants to better the atmosphere of freedom of expression all over the world. We will keep trying to improve our services in the future also so that people feel safe and better in public communication. '

 

Twitter says that after the violence on January 26, it has taken action against all the content, trends, tweets and accounts. Twitter said that it has taken action on all the accounts violating the rules. There are more than 500 accounts on which action has been taken due to spam or incorrect information. Twitter says that at the request of the IT ministry, it has reduced the visibility of many hashtags that spread hatred.
