Recently, a Sikh group filed a police complaint in Mumbai against the makers of Dhurandhar and Ranveer Singh, alleging that a poster for the film had hurt religious sentiments. Aditya Dhar has now issued his first response regarding this matter.
Allegations by the Sikh Organization
An organization representing the Sikh community, ‘Sikhs in Maharashtra,’ filed a complaint against the film at the Police Station in Mumbai. The organization alleges that a promotional poster for the film depicts Ranveer Singh in traditional Sikh attire—wearing a turban, sporting a long beard, and wearing a kada (steel bracelet). However, the same image also shows him smoking a cigarette, an act that has offended the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
Aditya Dhar’s Response
Director Aditya Dhar issued a statement on Instagram, writing: “This image is completely incorrect and fake. It depicts Jaskirat (Ranveer Singh’s character) smoking a cigarette while wearing a turban. This is neither a part of the film nor is it any official image of ours. Certain individuals are deliberately using AI to create such fake images in an attempt to incite public outrage.”
Aditya Dhar Appeals to the Public
Aditya Dhar further stated that he holds the Sikh community in the highest regard and that the Sikh character in the film has been portrayed with great sensitivity and dignity. He appealed to everyone to rely solely on official information. The Sikh organization had objected to the poster because it appeared to show Ranveer Singh smoking a cigarette while displaying Sikh religious symbols. It was subsequently revealed that the image in question was a fake, AI-generated picture that does not constitute official material for the film. The director has categorically refuted its authenticity.
