Extremely sad news is currently emerging from the Japanese film industry. Renowned filmmaker Tsutomu Shibayama has passed away. Shibayama—the creator behind cult cartoon shows like Doraemon—bid farewell to this world at the age of 84.

 

 

Following Tsutomu Shibayama's death, a wave of mourning has swept through the film fraternity, with everyone paying tribute to this titan of the anime world. Let us find out the cause behind Shibayama's demise.

 

 

Tsutomu Shibayama Is No More

 

The news of Tsutomu Shibayama's passing was announced on the website of the Japanese animation studio, Ajia-do Animation Works. The statement read: "Our former CEO, Tsutomu Shibayama, passed away on March 6th. The contributions of Shibayama—who entertained audiences immensely for over 20 years through the TV animation Doraemon—can never be forgotten. It is with deep respect for him that we are compelled to convey this sorrowful news to you all."

 

 

It is reported that Tsutomu Shibayama had been battling lung cancer for quite some time. Despite undergoing continuous treatment, no improvement was observed in his condition, and he breathed his last at the age of 84. Fans across social media platforms are expressing their grief over Tsutomu Shibayama's passing.

 

 

Looking back at Tsutomu Shibayama's filmmaking career, he began his journey in 1963 with Toei Animation. Subsequently, from 1984 to 2005, he directed the *Doraemon* cartoon series, winning the hearts of audiences everywhere. Through this work, viewers were introduced to beloved anime characters such as Nobita and Shizuka.

 

 

 

Father of National Animation

Tsutomu Shibayama was bestowed with the title of "Father of National Animation" for his magnificent contributions to the world of animation. It was for this very reason that he was hailed as the "King of the Cartoon World." Notably, throughout his filmmaking career, Tsutomu Shibayama directed over 22 Japanese films.
