With just three days remaining until the start of IPL 2026, news has emerged from the Mumbai Indians camp that has set fans’ hearts racing.
According to reports, the team’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has not yet joined the Mumbai Indians’ pre-season camp. Instead, he has been spotted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. It is worth noting that the opening match of the 19th season of the IPL is scheduled for March 28, while Mumbai Indians are set to kick off their campaign on March 29 with a match against KKR.
Is Jasprit Bumrah Injured Ahead of IPL 2026?
According to certain media reports, Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. A report by the Times of India states that Bumrah is spending these days at the Centre of Excellence prior to the commencement of the IPL. No information has yet surfaced regarding whether he is there for a routine check-up or to address an injury-related concern. However, Bumrah’s absence from the MI camp is fueling growing anxiety among fans.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene had revealed that players from the T20 World Cup-winning Indian squad were granted an extended break before joining their respective teams for the tournament.
Prior to this, former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra had remarked that Jasprit Bumrah is guaranteed to deliver strong performances in every match for Mumbai Indians (MI) during IPL 2026; however, he cautioned that the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions would face a complex puzzle in fitting their overseas talent into the playing XI.
It is pertinent to mention that in IPL 2025, Bumrah claimed 18 wickets across 12 matches, maintaining an average of 17.56 and an economy rate of 6.68. Now, in the 19th season of the IPL, the MI team will kick off its campaign on home soil on March 29 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium against the three-time champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Mumbai Indians’ Pace Attack Looks Strong
For IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians’ pace attack appears formidable. They possess formidable bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Deepak Chahar—players in whom the franchise will place high hopes.
