On Monday, doctors in many cities of the country went on strike and staged protests against the rape and murder of a junior female resident doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College.
In the capital Delhi, resident doctors sat on the road outside the Nirman Bhavan, the office of the Union Health Ministry, with an OPD and appealed for justice to the victim's family. Due to the strike for several days, health services have been halted in most places and patients are suffering.
Demand for bringing an ordinance
OPD services and regular surgeries were affected in all major government hospitals including All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Safdarjung, RML, Lady Harding Medical College, Lok Nayak, and GB Pant in Delhi. The action committee formed by the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) is adamant on the demand for bringing the Central Protection Act (CPA) and ordinance for the safety of doctors and health workers.
Symbolic OPDs of 36 departments were set up
Under the leadership of this action committee and the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), resident doctors sat on the road near Nirman Bhawan and set up symbolic OPDs of 36 departments including medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, orthopedics, ENT, neuro, psychiatry.
Doctors will not go to OPD duty
AIIMS RDA Vice President Dr. Suvarnakar Dutta said that through this OPD setup on the road, we want to tell that resident doctors want to return to duty in the hospital, but until the government does not take concrete steps for the safety of doctors, they will not go to OPD duty. He said that a meeting was held with the officials of the Health Ministry, but no significant result was achieved.
Patients' problems increased in Bihar
The strike of junior resident doctors in Bihar is taking a toll on patients. Due to the closure of OPD, the problems of patients undergoing surgery and those undergoing treatment for kidney cancer, etc. have increased. The OPDs of big hospitals like AIIMS Patna, IGIMS, PMCH, and NMCH were not even opened.
Fight march taken out in Rohtak
About 600 patients returned without treatment in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur. The operation theatre remained closed on the fourth day of the strike in Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital. Resident doctors, who were on strike for seven days in Rohtak PGI, Haryana, took out a fury march.
Silent march taken out in Mumbai
In Himachal Pradesh, treatment was not provided in medical colleges and hospitals except for emergency services. According to ANI, doctors and local people of Mumbai protested at Azad Maidan. Resident doctors of Sion Hospital also took out a silent march. On Sunday morning, a woman doctor was attacked by drunk relatives of a patient in Sion Hospital.
Services affected in Goa too
Services in medical colleges and hospitals remained affected for the fourth day in Goa. The strike of resident doctors in government medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh ended on Sunday on the orders of the High Court, but the strike of resident doctors of AIIMS continues. Due to this, OPD, operations, sonography, CT scans, and MRI tests are getting affected.

Security audit of all medical institutions of Punjab will be done in 15 days
