China is experiencing its worst drought in 61 years. A heat warning alert has been issued in 165 cities. In about 25 cities in central and southern China, the mercury has reached above 42 degrees Celsius. President Xi Jinping introduced artificial rain through cloud seeding in two provinces to combat rising temperatures and drought, raising the risk of floods and landslides in 15 cities in the Sichuan and Chongqing provinces. One lakh people from these cities have been moved to safer places.
For Jinping, this 'scientific step' of getting artificial rain from cloud seeding is causing political trouble. In September, the Communist Party of China session is proposed to seal Jinping's third term. On the other hand, cases of corona in China remain a problem. The world's largest wholesale electronic market in Shenzhen has been closed on Monday as the case escalated.
Why Cloud Seeding Failed in China
In cloud seeding technology, artificial water vapor is injected into the clouds. Due to high heat and drought, the ability of the soil to absorb water decreased.
A lot of water fell due to artificial rain. Due to this, the dry hills could not absorb the strong flow of water. Due to this, there is a possibility of creating a flood situation.
The hydro plant closed, and Tesla-Toyota work stalled
Due to the closure of the hydropower plant, there has been a power shortage. The plants of companies like Foxconn, Tesla, and Toyota located in Sichuan city have been closed for the last 15 days. China received 40% less rainfall in July-August than last year. The Yangtze River, the lifeline of 40 crore people, has dried up. Crops have dried up in 2.2 million hectares in 6 provinces of China, including Sichuan.
Jinping's dual role in danger
Ahead of the Communist Party convention in September, Jinping launched a campaign called Liang Gi Kuili. It means a dual role. That is, Jinpang is the supreme leader of the party and the only leader as the head of the government. Jinping's ambitious dual role has been threatened by the recent calamity of drought and floods.
