Appreciating India's commitment to renewable energy, EU President Ursula von der Leyen said India and the European Union (EU) shared goals in the field of green energy, including solar energy. The EU chief's statement came at the 'Youth for a Greener Future' event organized by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Delhi on Sunday. The EU chief said India and the European Union have a lot in common. We saw your target of 50% renewable energy by 2030. We share the view that we need to look to solar energy, wind energy, biomass, hydropower, and geothermal for our energy needs.

Leyen expressed satisfaction that the world would make efforts in the right direction to cut emissions. This is the first two-day visit of the EU chief to India. He is also scheduled to meet President Kovind and Prime Minister Modi.

I completely agree that if we work in the right direction, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Youth raise their voice on climate change

Climate change and biodiversity issues are at the top of the political agenda of the European Union and India. Leyen said youth should raise their voices for action on climate change. To combat climate change and save the earth, youth leadership is needed and they have to find solutions, he said.
