Every cricketer has his bad times, which all players accept. But what can we say about a player if he faces bad times despite good performance? Former Indian team opener Gautam Gambhir had a brilliant career, but he has also faced a lot of bad things. Gambhir made a big revelation related to his career on Ravichandran Ashwin's show.
Then took a big decision...
Gambhir said that when he was growing up if he did not touch the feet of the selector, he was thrown out of the team. Speaking on Ashwin's YouTube show Kutti Stories, Gambhir said, "When I was growing up, I was probably 12 or 13 years old. Then I gave trials for the Under-14 tournament for the first time but was not selected because I did not touch the feet of the selector. From then on I promised myself that I would not touch anyone's feet nor would I let anyone touch my feet.
The family was brought to the fore again and again
Gautam Gambhir said that whenever his performance was not good, a different kind of pressure was put on him by mentioning his family. Gambhir said, “I remember.” Whenever I was not performing well in my career, people would say that you are from a good family. You don't need to play cricket. You have many options. You join your father's business.
He also said, “This was the biggest thought hanging over my head. People don't realize that I wanted this more than them. I wanted to defeat the thought. When I could do this, I was not troubled by any other thought. The idea behind beating the toughest estimate in my life was that I didn't want to make it hard for myself but made it difficult for other people.
Expecting a third title from KKR
Let us tell you that Gautam Gambhir is currently the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. KKR team will take part in the first qualifier against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. KKR will try to reach the finals of IPL 2024 by winning this match.
