Home Minister Amit Shah fiercely targeted the Congress in a press conference on Wednesday. He said that till 1990, the Congress kept trying to ensure that BR Ambedkar did not get the Bharat Ratna.
Shah said, 'Last week, on the occasion of 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, a glorious discussion was organized in Parliament on the creation of the Constitution, the contribution of the Constitution makers and the ideals established in the Constitution. In this discussion, the country's 75-year pride journey, development journey, and achievements were also to be discussed.'
Mentioned the discussion in Parliament
He said 'It is natural that when there is a ruling and opposition party in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, then the views of the people, parties and speakers are different on every issue. But when there is a discussion in the highest democratic forum of the country like Parliament, then one thing is common in it that the matter should be based on facts and truth.'
Accusations against Congress
The Home Minister targeted Congress and said, 'The way Congress has tried to distort facts since yesterday is highly condemnable and I want to condemn it. This happened because BJP speakers raised topics with facts and many examples on the Constitution, the values of the Constitution, and how the government evaluated, protected, and promoted the values of the Constitution whenever Congress or BJP was in power.'
Accusation of insulting Ambedkar
Shah said 'It is decided that Congress is an anti-Ambedkar party, Congress is an anti-reservation and anti-Constitution party. Congress also insulted Savarkar ji, Congress destroyed all the values of the Constitution by imposing an emergency, ignored women's respect for years, always insulted the judiciary, insulted the martyrs of the army and even the audacity of breaking the Constitution, and gave away the land of India to other countries happened during Congress rule.'
Amit Shah said, 'Since yesterday, Congress has once again adopted its old method, twisted things and dressed up truth in falsehood and made a malicious attempt to spread confusion in the society. During the discussion in Parliament, it was proved how strongly Congress opposed Baba Saheb Ambedkar. How Congress tried to push him to the margins even after Baba Saheb's demise.'
Allegation of not giving Bharat Ratna
Shah said 'As far as giving Bharat Ratna is concerned, Congress leaders have given Bharat Ratna to themselves many times. In 1955, Nehru Ji gave the Bharat Ratna to himself, and in 1971, Indira Ji gave the Bharat Ratna to herself. But Baba Saheb got Bharat Ratna in 1990 when Congress was not in power and there was a BJP-supported government. Till 1990, Congress kept trying to ensure that Baba Saheb did not get Bharat Ratna. Even the celebration of Baba Saheb's 100th birth anniversary was prohibited.'
He said, 'No memorial of Baba Saheb Ambedkar was built as long as Congress was in power. Wherever opposition governments came, memorials kept getting built. BJP governments and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government developed Panchtirth related to Baba Saheb's life, Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, Baba Saheb's memorial in London, Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, National Memorial in Delhi and Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai, Maharashtra were developed by BJP governments.'
Allegation of presenting the statement in a distorted manner
Shah said that 'My statement in Rajya Sabha was presented in a distorted manner. Earlier, they had edited the statements of PM Narendra Modi and made them public. When the elections were going on, my statement was edited using AI. And today they are presenting my statement in a distorted manner.'
He said 'I also want to request the media to put my full statement in front of the public. I belong to the party which can never insult Ambedkar. First Jan Sangh and then Bharatiya Janata Party have always tried to follow the principles of Ambedkar. Whenever the Bharatiya Janata Party was in power, we propagated the principles of Ambedkar. Bharatiya Janata Party has worked to strengthen reservation.'
Shah also lashed out at Kharge.
Home Minister Amit Shah said 'I also want to tell Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge that you should not have supported this nefarious attempt of Congress. I am very sad that you have also joined it under the pressure of Rahul Gandhi.'
He said 'We know that Baba Saheb has a huge contribution in making the Constitution of the country inclusive, in getting justice to Dalits, tribals, deprived, poor and in deepening the foundation of democracy in the country. The whole country expresses gratitude to Baba Saheb.'
Opposition had targeted
Earlier yesterday, during his address in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Amit Shah had made several serious allegations against Congress. The opposition had also expressed a strong reaction to one of Shah's statements. Mallikarjun Kharge had said that his statement was unfortunate and Amit Shah should apologize. Kharge had accused the Home Minister of insulting the Constitution and demanded his dismissal.
