The Central Government has given a big gift to the farmers amidst the ongoing farmers' movement on the border of the national capital Delhi. The Center has increased the minimum price of sugarcane by Rs 25 to Rs 340 per quintal. In this regard, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur held a press conference on Wednesday and gave information about the decisions of the Modi cabinet. During this, he also said that the Central Government is ready to talk to the protesting farmers. He said that farmers are our 'brothers' and 'food providers'. He also emphasized that the Modi government has taken many steps to improve the income of farmers.
During the press conference, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the government is committed to doubling the income of farmers and many steps have been taken in this direction. During this, when asked whether the issue of farmers protesting on the Punjab-Haryana borders was discussed during the cabinet meeting? He said that the Center is ready for talks. Anurag Thakur said that we were ready for talks earlier also and are ready even today and will be ready to discuss their issues in the future also. We have no problem talking to them because they are our brothers and providers.
He said that keeping in mind the interest of sugarcane farmers, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the FRP of Rs 340 per quintal at the basic recovery rate of 10.25 percent. Thakur said that under the PM-Kisan scheme, the government has paid Rs 2.81 lakh crore to about 12 crore farmers. He said that this is our commitment and duty towards the farmers. During this, he also accused the farmers of being ignored during the tenure of the UPA government. Attacking the Congress for not doing enough for the farmers, Thakur said the Congress had neither respect nor funds at the time.
It is noteworthy that the increase in FRA by Rs 25 per quintal is the highest increase made by the Modi government. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, this will benefit the farmers of Maharashtra and Karnataka the most, where sugarcane is produced the most.
Earlier, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda had said that the interest of farmers across the country should be kept in mind while dealing with the demands raised by the protesting farmers at the Punjab-Haryana borders. He also appealed to the farmers to come for another round of discussion.
