In 2012, a Test series was being played between England and India. In the second match played in Mumbai, Team India won the toss and decided to bat first. India got early setbacks in the first innings Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 4 and Virender Sehwag scored 30 runs. After the dismissal of both, Sachin Tendulkar came on the field. He faced 12 balls and was playing 8 runs.
The ball for England was in the hands of Punjab-born Monty Panesar. He bowled the fifth ball of the 19th over to the leg side, the ball took a turn, and Tendulkar's off-stump was uprooted. Sachin tried his best to stop the turned ball but did not succeed. He looked back once and went back to the pavilion.
Punjabi Munda Monty jumped at the wicket of Sachin. In the second innings, Monty once again made Sachin LBW for 8 runs and then celebrated the same way. Dainik Bhaskar has a special conversation with Monty Panesar, who troubled the God of cricket with his brilliant bowling. Panesar, who has played 50 Tests for England, feels that India will win the T20 World Cup to be held in October.
He spoke very frankly about Virat Kohli, Team India's performance in the World Cup as well as Rishabh Pant and Umran Malik.
Question: Where do you see Team India in T20 World Cup?
Answer: I see it in the same way that India is going to win the 2022 T20 World Cup in any case.
Question: What about India's batting order and bowling? Do you see any change in what is going on now?
Answer: I believe that Virat Kohli should open in the T20. He will play brilliantly in the shortest format of cricket as an opener, that's what I claim. He has played such a game before. Kohli's partner KL Rahul should be replaced by Rohit Sharma.
I would like to see one more change in India's batting order. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant should be given a chance in playing XI. As far as bowling is concerned, I think there is still a question mark on it. What is the best combination of India, it is not clear yet. If Jasprit Bumrah returns in good form then it will prove beneficial for India.
Question: What do you have to say about the Indian bowlers involved in the World Cup, should Mohammed Shami have been included in the team considering the Australian pitch instead of Bhuvneshwar?
Answer: Bhuvneshwar Kumar has to perform well in the first matches of the World Cup. It is better if the team decides further after seeing their performance in these matches. India's batting is strong. In such a situation, India will have to keep a target of scoring 20 runs more by looking at the big scores of each ground. By doing this, India can also win the World Cup and there will not be much pressure on the bowlers.
Question: Who do you think will be the top 4 teams to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup?
Answer: The four teams that will reach the semi-finals are Australia, New Zealand, and India. At the same time, the fourth team will be England.
Question: There are a lot of discussions between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant. Which of the two do you think should be in the playing 11?
Answer: I want both Rishabh Pant and Karthik to be included in the playing 11. I think Pant is a match-winner. They should not play big shots as soon as they come. Give yourself some time and when the ball starts coming on the bat, then they should play big shots.
Cross-bat shot after 2-3 balls it is foolish to be out of play. At the same time, Dinesh Karthik should play because he is a specialist finisher. They say that there is one last challenge in every match. Karthik can cross him and win the match for India.
Question: Young fast bowler like Umran Malik, whose speed is around 150, has not been selected for the World Cup team. Do you think he should have been on the team?
Answer: Umran Malik is new to International cricket. When a young player is suddenly given a chance in a big tournament, there are more chances of his confidence going down. In such a situation, I believe that not giving him a chance right now is the right decision. He should gradually introduce himself to international cricket. He will do well in the future.
