As the mercury rises, the garbage mountain in Ghazipur is on fire once again. The fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon was controlled to some extent on Monday morning, but the fire continued to burn intermittently. The process of smoke rising from the mountain of garbage continues. The poisonous smoke rising from the mountain of garbage spread to nearby Rajveer Colony, Mulla Colony, Kondli, Ghadauli village, Harijan Basti, Mayur Vihar Phase-3, Noida Sector-11 and Khoda Colony of Ghaziabad. Apart from difficulty in breathing, the people living here are suffering from suffocation and a burning sensation in the eyes. Many people spent the night awake. Some people did not even send their children to school.
On one hand, the fire department was busy controlling the fire, while on the other hand, Delhi Municipal Corporation continued its efforts to reduce the impact of the fire. After the flames subsided, the work of pouring soil and sand with the help of JCB is being done at the place where the smoke is rising. Four fire engines have been deployed on both sides of the garbage mountain. Every 10 minutes, they are taking about 6 thousand liters of water and pouring it on the fire.
At the same time, politics has also intensified along with the flames burning in the garbage heap in Ghazipur. Aam Aadmi Party and BJP have come face to face regarding this. While the Aam Aadmi Party is trying to clarify the incident, the BJP is cornering the Delhi government over the fire. He says that due to negligence on the part of the government, fires are occurring here every year. Common people are having to suffer the consequences of this.
Eight vehicles were called from nearby fire stations.
Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said that at around 5.53 pm on Sunday, the control room had received the news that a fire had broken out at the landfill site located in Ghazipur. Immediately eight vehicles from nearby fire stations were sent to the spot. Within no time the fire engulfed a large part of the mountain. On the other hand, local people said that the fire broke out at around 1.30 pm. There was a movement of fire engines at the landfill site throughout the night. The next morning around 11.30 am, the fire was controlled to a great extent, but from time to time the fire broke out again. On Monday, eight fire tenders remained busy controlling the fire that broke out on the garbage mountain throughout the day.
The fire will subside only after heavy rain.
Fire department officials say that controlling the fire on the garbage mountain is a very difficult task. The fire is extinguished by pouring water, but smoke continues to come out. As soon as the opportunity arises, the fire flares up again. If the MCD covers the fire spot with soil or sand, the chances of a fire are reduced, but according to the fire brigade personnel who extinguished the fire on the spot, the fire will subside only after heavy rains.
