BCB President Aminul Islam, giving his final decision on Thursday, said, "We will go back to the ICC with our plan that we want to play in Sri Lanka, not in India. They gave us a 24-hour ultimatum, but no global body can actually do that. The ICC will lose 200 million viewers of the T20 World Cup. It will be their loss. The ICC is calling Sri Lanka a co-host, while it is not a co-host. It's a hybrid model. What I heard in the ICC meeting was shocking."
The ICC is also not in the mood to back down.
Meanwhile, the ICC has already held a vote regarding the exclusion of Bangladesh. If Bangladesh persists with its stance, it will be disqualified from the tournament, and Scotland will take its place. The ICC is also not going to back down from its decision. The ICC does not seem to be in a mood to yield to Bangladesh's demands amidst this entire controversy, which could ultimately result in Bangladesh's expulsion from the T20 World Cup.

However, this rebellious move by Bangladesh may not be limited to just being eliminated from the World Cup. They could also face severe consequences, penalties, and sanctions from the top international cricket body. According to ICC rules, withdrawing from the tournament is an action that triggers a whole series of financial, competitive, and diplomatic penalties.
What happened in the 1996 World Cup?
During the 1996 ODI World Cup, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka were the three co-hosts. When Australia and the West Indies refused to play their group matches against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, they also faced penalties. However, Bangladesh's non-participation will result in a loss of ranking points, which are crucial for automatic qualification for future major events, such as the next World Cup and Champions Trophy. This could force Bangladesh to play qualifiers against lower-tier associate teams. Furthermore, they could lose the right to host ICC global tournaments, which would severely impact local infrastructure development, sponsorship deals, and investment in cricket within the country.
3. Diplomatic Consequences: The strained relations between India and Bangladesh could lead to the indefinite postponement of the upcoming bilateral series. If the ICC deems this politically motivated rather than a genuine security concern, the BCB could be completely suspended, halting all national team activities and international engagements.
