The fifth and final match of the five-match Test series between India and Australia is being played in Sydney. After lunch on the second day, India suffered a major setback when captain Jasprit Bumrah was seen leaving the field. Shortly after this, he was seen going out of the field towards the parking in a warm-up jersey. Then he left the field in a car with the doctor of the medical team. According to media reports, he has gone to the hospital for a scan and he is complaining of side strain. However, concrete information about this could not be found. The BCCI has not given any information so far. Virat Kohli is currently captaining in place of Bumrah.

India may get a setback.

This could be a big setback for India, as Bumrah is the captain and also a strike bowler. On this tour, the bowling of the Indian team has revolved around him. Bumrah looked in great form from one end and in the first four Tests combined, he took more wickets than the rest of the Indian fast bowlers. During this, he also had to spend a lot of time bowling on the field. He has played five consecutive Tests and did not get rest under workload management. In such a situation, fatigue can also dominate him.

Bumrah is the main weapon of the Indian team.

It is worth noting that Bumrah made a comeback from a back stress fracture in 2023. He was away from cricket for about 10 months. Since his return, he has been seen in deadly form. He made his mark in the world. Thanks to him, India reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, while also winning the trophy in the 2024 T20 World Cup. His absence from the field is a matter of concern for Team India. Australia is currently leading 2-1 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and only with a win in Sydney will Team India be able to retain this trophy. In such a situation, Bumrah is India's main weapon.

Kohli is captaining

However, during Australia's first innings in the Sydney Test, the rest of the Indian fast bowlers did not let his absence be felt and wrapped up Australia's first innings for 181 runs. When Bumrah went for the scan, Australia had lost six wickets. After this Nitish Reddy, Siraj, and Prasidh bowled well. Virat Kohli is currently captaining in the absence of Bumrah. Virat is seen captaining in Tests for the first time after the South Africa tour in 2022. India scored 185 runs in the first innings in Sydney. In response, Australia's first innings is going on.
