Seeing Smith moving forward, he pulled the length of the ball back. Smith tried to play Akash's short-pitch ball by moving forward. The ball hit his bat-pad and then hit the wicket. Smith had moved two feet ahead and did not go back to stop the ball. The ball rolled and hit the stumps. He scored 140 runs in 197 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes. Smith has reached the joint sixth position in terms of scoring the most centuries in Tests. He equaled legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara, Younis Khan, and Mahela Jayawardene. He also scored 34 centuries in Tests. Now Sachin Tendulkar (51 centuries), Jacques Kallis (45 centuries), Ricky Ponting (41 centuries), Kumar Sangakkara (38 centuries), Joe Root (36 centuries) and Rahul Dravid (36 centuries) are above Smith. Smith scored his 11th century in Tests against India. He became the batsman who scored the most Test centuries against Team India. In this case, he left behind Joe Root (10 centuries).

 

Australia's first innings ended at 474 runs. After winning the toss and batting first, the first three batsmen scored half-centuries for Australia. After this, Smith scored a century. He scored 140 runs in 197 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes. Captain Pat Cummins played an innings of 49 runs. On the second day, Australia resumed the game at 311 for six. However, the Indian bowlers had to work hard for the remaining four wickets. Australia added 163 runs on the second day and lost four wickets. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took the most four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets. Akash Deep took two wickets, while Sundar took one wicket.
