Indian cricket team's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has suddenly withdrawn from the ongoing third Test match against England in Rajkot due to a family medical emergency. Just a few hours before this, he had become the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to take 500 Test wickets. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla took to social media to give another update about the incident and wrote that Ashwin's mother was facing a medical emergency. Rajeev Shukla said- I wish for the speedy recovery of Ashwin's mother. He will have to leave the Rajkot Test and go to Chennai to live with his mother.

Earlier, BCCI had given an update on this development late on Friday night. BCCI had said in the statement, 'Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Test team with immediate effect due to a family medical emergency. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team fully support Ashwin in this challenging time. The Indian Cricket Board did not reveal the exact reason for Ashwin's withdrawal and requested everyone to respect the cricketer's privacy.
The board wrote, 'BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the players and their loved ones is of utmost importance to us. The Board requests to respect the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they go through this challenging time. The board and the team will continue to provide any assistance to Ashwin and are always ready to provide support as needed. Team India appreciates the understanding and sympathy of fans and media during this sensitive time.
Ashwin talked about his achievement in the press conference after the match. India will field 10 players in the remaining time of the third Test. Now captain Rohit has the option of four specialist bowlers in this Test in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav. It is believed that Ashwin will not be available in the remaining matches to be held in Ranchi (25 to 29 February) and Dharamshala (7 to 11 March).
Talking about the Rajkot Test match, India's first innings, batting first, ended at 445 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs, Ravindra Jadeja scored 112 runs and Sarfaraz Khan scored 62 runs. Apart from this, in the end, Ashwin also played an inning of 37 runs and Dhruv Jurel played an inning of 46 runs. Mark Wood took four wickets.
