India and Pakistan are scheduled to face each other in the T20 World Cup on February 15th. The World Cup hasn't even started yet, but the rivalry between India and Pakistan is already heating up. Pakistan unexpectedly threatened to boycott the tournament in support of Bangladesh, and now former Indian captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has taken a dig at the neighboring country over this.
Srikkanth said that teams around the world would be afraid to face Suryakumar Yadav's team in the T20 World Cup. Srikkanth jokingly advised Pakistan not to participate in the tournament. He referred to the recent threat by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who had spoken of a boycott in support of Bangladesh being excluded from the prestigious event.
India in formidable form
India has performed brilliantly in the ongoing five-match T20 series against New Zealand. This is India's last series before the T20 World Cup. In the third match played in Guwahati on Sunday, India chased down a target of 154 runs in just 10 overs. Abhishek Sharma scored a half-century in 14 balls, and captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 runs off 26 balls. Earlier, India had chased down a target of 209 runs in just 15.2 overs in the second T20 match.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, "In the last match, India scored 209 runs in 15 overs. In this match, they scored 150 runs in 10 overs. Seeing this, many teams might say, 'No, we are not coming. You can keep the cup.' Hey Pakistan, don't come. Your man Mohsin Naqvi is saying the same thing: don't come. You will be thrashed badly. A six hit in Colombo will land in Madras. Be careful. The best option is to stay away. Find some excuse and don't come. These boys will thrash Pakistan badly. This will send a message to every cricket team in the world. I have never seen such batting in T20 cricket before."
Will Pakistan boycott the World Cup? Pakistan has unnecessarily intervened in the Bangladesh matter and has launched a campaign against the ICC.
The ICC had rejected Bangladesh's request and excluded them from the World Cup, replacing them with Scotland.
Pakistan did not take kindly to this, and PCB chief Najam Sethi accused the ICC of bias.
Sethi also stated that the Pakistani team's participation in the World Cup would be decided on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In a way, Sethi had threatened to boycott the T20 World Cup, but later reversed his stance and announced the team.
